This is a very good history of the time period. Even though the focus is economics, it covers some political history too. It does not waste words, which is refreshing. –  Good Brief History

Tirthankar Roy, is an Indian economic historian and Professor in Economic History at the London School of Economics. His research mainly focuses on economic history, business history, and the history of development.
